Product Description

1.Product Overview

This is a customized and certified enterprise grade NVMe solid state drive with extremely high durability. Its core positioning is as the core storage medium for high-end storage systems (such as FlashSystem 9x00 series), used to carry the most demanding and write intensive critical enterprise workloads. The PM1723B in the model specifies its basic hardware platform, while 01YM541 and 01CM507 are exclusive FRU (field replaceable unit) part numbers used for IBM's internal spare parts, warranty, and service tracking.

High reliability: MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) can reach up to 2 million hours, providing extremely high operational stability.

4. Core Technologies and Functions

NVMe dual port access: Supports Active Active dual controller access. This is a key technology for achieving high availability (HA) in enterprise level storage arrays. When one controller, path, or port fails, another can seamlessly take over immediately, ensuring zero interruption of business.

Power outage protection: Built in comprehensive power outage protection (PLP) circuit, usually including tantalum capacitors and other components. In the event of an unexpected power outage, it can provide sufficient power to the hard drive to fully write the cached data into NAND flash memory, ensuring absolute data integrity.

Enterprise level data protection: supports end-to-end data path protection, advanced ECC error correction, RAID protection mechanism, and comprehensive S.M.A.R.T. attribute monitoring to ensure the security of the entire data link from the host to the NAND grain.

Advanced flash management: equipped with powerful garbage collection, wear leveling, and bad block management algorithms, maximizing hard drive lifespan and performance consistency.

5. Application scenarios

This hard drive is designed for extremely demanding write environments, with typical applications including:

FlashSystem 9x00 series all flash storage array: serving as the core driver for performance and capacity layers.

Large online transaction processing systems, such as core databases for banks and securities (Oracle, DB2).

Virtualization and VDI infrastructure: carrying a large number of concurrent intensives write operations for virtual machines.

Log based databases and analysis platforms: applications that require continuous recording of large amounts of data.

6. Compatibility and usage

Main platform: dedicated to FlashSystem 9200/9100, 7200, and other IBM storage systems that support NVMe U.2 dual port drivers.

Compatibility notes: Although the physical interface is standard U.2, its dual port functionality and customized firmware strongly rely on the underlying support of IBM storage controllers. It is not recommended to use it for non-IBM servers or third-party storage devices as critical features may not be recognized or enabled.

Management and maintenance: Management, monitoring, firmware upgrades, and fault diagnosis need to be carried out through the IBM Storage Manager suite. All operations should follow IBM's official guidance.
